  • These guys have the best prices I have found, and they are loving and attentive with my doggies. I know they treat my little doggies with lots of love. We have been to a couple of groomers in the past, and my little poodle would always be shaking when I dropped her off, but after a few times taking her to Pooch Palace she doesn’t shake anymore.

I think she actually enjoys it, and is always lots happier after her haircut and bath! I was recommended here by my sister and was so impressed. Thankyou Pooch Palac!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does grooming take?

If your Pooch requires a haircut, we ask that you allow four hours so that we can wash, dry and cut the hair. Less time is required however, if there is no hand scissoring required. Likewise, if the hair is matted it may take more time. If you need your dog groomed “in and out,” we suggest you choose an early morning appointment.  If desired, we can call you as the groomer is finishing – that way you can come to pick up your dog right away.

What Products do you use?

We use the best quality shampoo and conditioners in the salon, including Dr Zoo’s medicated shampoo for dogs with skin irritations (at no extra cost). Dr Zoo products contain small amounts of a number of different natural cleansers and are totally lickable.

We also use Nature’s Specialties and Artero range which are gentle on faces and smell divine.

Your Pooch will be begging for another bath!

My dog’s hair is knotted or matted. Do I need to cut the hair short?

Matted or knotted dog hair is bad for the skin. It creates an almost inpenetratable layer that stays wet and does not allow the skin to breathe. Before washing the dog, it is necessary to brush out all the matting, however if the matting is severe or too close to the skin this may not be possible. In some cases it may be possible to “de-mat” the coat without clipping but, this is an arduous and painful process for your dog.

If your dog is matted, we will advise you on the best course of action. If the hair can be de-matted without causing pain to the dog, it may be possible to save the coat. Otherwise, we may recommend cutting the hair short with either scissors or clippers.

If your dog’s hair is matted, we recommend meeting with one of our groomers beforehand so that we can discuss your options.

Do you cut Nails?

Yes, we are able to cut the nails on most dogs. However, due to temperament or previous bad experiences, some dogs, may need their nails trimmed by a Veterinarian.

Regular nail trimming can minimize the chance of bleeding, but not eliminate the risk completely. It is also helpful to avoid walking on the sidewalk immediately after the nail trim.

Does every Pooch get a bath?

In order to get an even hair cut, the hair needs to be clean so we always bathe the dog as part of grooming.

Depending on your dog’s breed and style, the groomer may do a “rough cut.” After the rough cut, your dog is washed, fluff dried and then the haircut is completed. In other cases, we may wash and dry the dog completely before starting the haircut.

Can you Groom my Pooch to the breed standard?

Yes, we are very familiar with most of the more common breed standards. However, most of our clients do not clip to the standard because of the maintenance required.

To ensure that we’re all on the same page, please talk with your groomer about the type of look you’re after (and bring pictures if possible).

Every dog is different and each person’s needs vary so a quick chat can help you know your options and decide accordingly.

Can I choose who grooms my dog?

Of course! While all of our groomers are fully certified and professional, we each have our own specialty, and we’re happy to discuss those with you when you book your appointment.

Also, sometimes we find that some dogs prefer one of our groomer’s over another – we don’t take it personally. Just like people, sometimes dogs are funny like that!

What are anal glands?

These are the scent sacs right under a dog’s tail, and believe us, it’s not something you want to have to deal with at home. Many dogs empty their anal glands naturally, by scooting along the ground, but some don’t! As part of the full grooming package, your groomer to see if your dog’s gland needs to be expressed (emptied) and will take care of this for you. Please let us know if your veterinarian does this or if you do not want us to express the glands.

How is my dog dried?

We will towel dry your dog as soon as they come out of the tub. For short haired dogs on particularly hot days, this is usually all they need (as well as a roll around in the playpen.) For long haired breeds and on cold days, we will use a warm high-velocity hand dryer to blow off the majority of water.

We also have a warm room that your dog can sit, lay and turn around in that circulates air all around them. During all of these drying phases your dog is being supervised.

What if I don‘t like the groom when its finished?

Please tell us. We aim to please. On the occasion where a haircut is not to your liking and it is a matter of a little more trimming here or there, the groomer can usually do it right away. In some instances, we may ask you to come again on another day, in which case we can start again.
